Digital Assets, Cryptoassets and CBDCs
With support from the ICAEW Financial Services Faculty team, the inaugural
ResFinTech event was hosted at Chartered Accountants’ Hall in London on
12 June 2023. Roundtable discussions were held for the purpose of identifying
an important strand of research relating to the risks and governance
implications of Cryptoasset Technology.
It was attended by high-profile individuals from Bank of England (BoE), All Party
Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Crypto and Digital Assets, accounting/audit firms
[Deloitte, BDO, Ernst & Young (EY), Grant Thornton and KPMG], and others such
as Andersen and other consulting firms.

Responsible FinTech in Crypto World
ResFinTech Lead joined the ICAEW Head of Tech Policy and Tech Policy
Manager in conversation about the crypto world, hosted by the Director of
Business and Community Engagement at the University of Bradford.
Future Financial Services Regulatory Regime for Cryptoassets
ResFinTech provided a number of responses to the HM Treasury Consultation:
Future Financial Services Regulatory Regime for Cryptoassets. It collaborated
to gather and collate responses from contributing academic members and students
of the MSc Financial Technology programme at the University of Bradford. One of
which was to “advocate for a regulatory regime that would incentivise the
use of cryptoassets to improve financial inclusion.”
ResFinTech Lead, MSc FinTech students and the Society of FinTech Students
(SoFTS) at the University of Bradford worked in partnership with FinTech North
in hosting a career booster webinar. Speakers included the General Manager at
FinTech North, the Chief People Officer and Director of Product at Lenvi, the
Founder of White Label Crowd Funding and rebuildingsociety.com, and the
Partner — Financial Services at Squire Patton Boggs.
During the webinar, speakers encouraged students to continue remaining
passionate, inquisitive, innovative and committed to their work in the
FinTech space.
The workshop was held at the University of Bradford in collaboration with the
ICT4D North (of England), which is a regional network of researchers with research
interests related to ICT for Development in the North of England. The mission is
to foster intellectual exchange, promote research synergies, and cultivate
collaborations within the region. Participants include early career researchers
and PhD students who shared their reflections on how their research approaches
or conceptualises digital disruption.

Inclusive Finance: Unlocking Growth through Values-Based Innovation
The conference was held at the University of Bradford in collaboration with
West Yorkshire Combined Authority (WYCA), Yorkshire Asian Business Association
(YABA), Brewin Dolphin, Schofield Sweeney, and the Ethnic Minority Business
& Policy Forum. The Responsible FinTech session featured a presentation of
a research paper by a doctoral researcher and a practical insight from FinTech
North.
